… but where do you get your protein?

usually when people ask me this, i enlighten them and they are happy (beans, nuts, seeds, quinoa, tofu, tempeh, etc.)
but sometimes people react to me like i am lying to them and that i can’t possibly be healthy
i understand ignorance, but after being informed of something you’d think most people would lighten up

for the record, i have great blood and no vitamin or nutrient deficiencies as confirmed by a recent blood and urine test

in fact my blood protein level is 7.0 (the healthy range is 6.2-8.3 g/dL), the same as my dad who is an avid meat eater

if you eat right, you won’t have nutrient deficiencies
it’s that simple

i’ve been doing this for two years, and i’m not going to stop

just saw forks over knives

whole plant foods for the win!

i would suggest that vegans take their parents that don’t understand the nutrition behind veganism and just taking friends that are vegetarians and meat eaters.

the movie is really more like a dateline special than a documentary. i really wish it went more in depth. either way i suggest you see it.

i’ve already cut out processed foods for the most part (only a few minimally processed foods exist in my diet with very few exceptions) but i’m gonna try to up my fresh veggie and fruit intake and cook more now that the stress of school is behind me until late august. can’t wait to have lots of tempeh, beans, and quinoa!

too much soy

i’ve been having way too much tofu and tempeh lately. i’m going to spend some time this summer mixing it up and developing a quick and easy cheap vegan protein patty. i already have a solid lentil burger recipe, so that’s one option. i have experimented in the past with a quinoa loaf that’s bonded together with chickpeas, oats, and water, but i want to maybe try some other beans. maybe i can make a multibean patty with some millet in there, use some buckwheat groats, spelt berries perhaps.

i have ideas, we’ll see what comes of them.

meat and veganism

i’m a vegan
i do not miss meat
when i pass meat in the store or when i am around meat, i don’t suddenly get secret cravings
it’s like walking past lengthy novels about topics i don’t care about when i’m in the bookstore or library
i just ignore it and keep walking

i don’t care much for fake meat
i’ll only have it once in a while just for kicks
i’m more into real food that isn’t meat
and protein sources that most people haven’t heard of (whuddup quinoa)

it just seems that when people figure out i’m a vegan, they get all these ideas that i have a huge hankering for meat.
